Cookies Made From Plastic Bottles Could Ease Food Shortages

Imagine biting into a cookie and learning that some of its ingredients originally came from a discarded plastic bottle. That unusual idea is becoming a reality. Researchers at Southern Illinois University Carbondale are developing a technology that uses specialized microorganisms to transform plastic bottles and agricultural waste into food ingredients—including proteins, fats, vitamins and flavor compounds. The resulting protein-rich cookies, called µBites, could eventually provide food in places where traditional supplies are difficult to obtain. The research is part of...Click for full post

China Postpones Chang’e-7 Lunar Launch, Delaying Ambitious Moon South Pole Mission

China has postponed the launch of its Chang’e-7 lunar mission after officials determined that the spacecraft did not meet the conditions required to launch during the planned 2026 window. The delay is a setback for one of China’s most ambitious robotic Moon missions, which is designed to search for water ice near the lunar south pole. The China Manned Space Agency announced the postponement on August 23, 2026, following what it described as a comprehensive assessment. Officials said the decision...Click for full post

SpaceX Moon Crash Site Revealed: NASA Images Show New Lunar Crater

SpaceX Moon Crash Site Revealed in Stunning NASA Images The SpaceX moon crash site has now been photographed in detail, giving scientists their first close look at the scar left by a discarded Falcon 9 rocket stage that slammed into the Moon earlier this month. NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) captured before-and-after images showing a newly formed crater on the lunar surface. The impact occurred on August 5, 2026, when an approximately 8,800-pound (4,000-kilogram) Falcon 9 upper stage struck the...Click for full post

New Cosmic Object MoM-BH*-1 Identified as a “Black Hole Star”

Astronomers may have discovered a completely new type of cosmic object hiding in the early universe. Called MoM-BH-1*, the mysterious object appears to combine characteristics of a star and a black hole, leading researchers to describe it as a “black hole star.” The extraordinary object was observed with NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and dates to a time when the universe was only about 660 million years old. Its unusual properties could provide important clues about one of astronomy’s...Click for full post

China Updates Geological Map of the Moon

China has released a significantly updated geological map of the Moon, giving scientists a more detailed picture of the lunar surface and its history. The new map, completed by researchers at the Institute of Geology of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, incorporates new scientific information from China's Chang’e lunar exploration program, including samples returned from the Moon's near and far sides. The project is more than a new picture of the Moon. Scientists say the updated map provides an...Click for full post

236-Million-Year-Old Fossil Challenges the Story of Mammalian Live Birth

A 236-million-year-old fossil from Argentina is giving scientists a surprising new look at one of the most important developments in mammalian evolution: live birth. Researchers studying the fossil of Chiniquodon theotonicus, a distant mammalian relative that lived during the Triassic Period, have found evidence suggesting that this animal may have given birth to live young rather than laying eggs. If confirmed by additional fossils, the discovery could push the origin of live birth in the mammalian lineage back by as...Click for full post
